Vitalicious Vitatops Reviewed and Ranked
I will never forget the day I came home from work one day to find these unusual, frozen chocolate rings deep in my freezer. As a giant fan of muffin tops, I immediately swiped one to find that this chocolately treat was only a 100 calories and packed with great ingredients and guilt-free nutritional value. With ingredients like whole wheat flour, egg whites, and organic, as well as nutritional value packed with protein, fiber and low sodium, what’s not to love? I had to try one.
Like a young school kidexcited to unwrap his first Christmas gift, I excitingly opened this tasty-looking treat. After sticking it in the microwave for 45 seconds, out came a surprisingly fudgy looking muffin top. I took my fork, scooped a significant chunk and lifted it to my mouth. Four years later and I’m still eating Vitatops on nearly a daily basis.
Vitatops are a delicious guilt-free way to tackle that sweet tooth either as a late night snack or early morning pick-me-up. They aren’t particularly large, but sized properly enough to conquer that chocolate craving. These healthy treats are wonderful microwaved, baked, room temperature and even frozen solid. If you’re ever feeling indulgent, top these with ice cream or whipped cream for a mouthwatering dessert.
Vitalicious Vitatops are not only a great chocolate indulgent, but with 11 unique flavors, there is enough variety to meet everyone’s sweet vice. Over the years I’ve tried every flavor of Vitatops (and even most of their sister products) and wanted to share which flavors have to try, as well as which ones you may want to avoid. Enjoy!
1. Deep Chocolate
There is a reason this classic chocolate flavor is Vitalicious’ most popular flavor. The muffin is composed of a rich chocolate flavor and is filled with tiny chocolate morsels. My biggest complaint is the inconsistency of some of these tasty treats. Some appears to be covered with those decadent chocolate morsels, while others you cannot spot a single one. There is nothing better than finding a hidden gem topped with the tasty chocolate chunks.
Verdict: 10/10 (Best: Microwaved)

2. Triple Chocolate Chunk
If you’re interested in adding some variety to your chocolate indulgences, then Triple Chocolate Chunk is the Vitatop for you. This unique flavor features that classic chocolate muffin, but is loaded with a combination of milk, white and dark chocolate chips. This flavor is a close second to the Deep Chocolate flavor, only losing in terms of the amount of chocolate chips found in the muffin top. Oh and did I mention I’ve only been able to find this flavor available online?
Verdict: 9.5/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 100 Calories, 4g Protein, 1.5g Fat, 9g Fiber, 11g Sugar
3. Banana Chocolate Chip
It’s well known within my group of friends that I’m a banana-fanatic. Banana pudding, bread, and even artificial candy has always been my vice. This Vitatop flavor is no different. This muffin has a strong banana flavor with a fluffier texture than your traditional Vitatops. Throughout the treat are little chocolate morsels that are just satisfactory enough; however, they could use a smidge more in each muffin. Regardless, this flavor is definitely my favorite alternative from the pure chocolate options.
Verdict: 9/10 (Best: Microwaved or Room Temperature)
Nutrition: 110 Calories, 5g Protein, 2g Fat, 9g Fiber, 9g Sugar
4. CranBran
By far the best flavor for a breakfast snack. This muffin top is loaded with dried cranberry pieces and tastes almost exactly like a CranBran muffin you would buy from the stores (without the added calories). You can also see the loads of delicious oatmeal throughout, giving these tasty snacks a wonderful crumbly texture.
Verdict: 8/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 100 Calories, 4g Protein, 1g Fat, 4g Fiber, 12g Sugar
5. Chocolate Fudgy Peanut Butter Chip
As an avid lover of peanut butter and chocolate flavor combination, this Vitatop flavor hits the spot. Just look at those giant peanut butter chips layering the chocolate muffin top. When microwaved, the peanut butter chips melt just enough to cover the top of the Vitatop. If you don’t like overly sweet (and love peanut butter), this flavor is for you.
Verdict: 8/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 120 Calories, 4g Protein, 3g Fat, 4g Fiber, 12g Sugar
6. Mint Chocolate
I’ve had some friends try some of these and they were not a fan; however, I cannot get enough of this flavor. The Chocolate Mint comes through perfectly and makes it taste like a Thin Mint cookie in muffin form. So while not crunchy like the infamous Girl Scout Cookies, these muffin tops do have a very strong and distinct mint flavor. It’s like exploring the winter holidays all year round!
Verdict: 7.5/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 100 Calories, 4g Protein, 1.5g Fat, 4g Fiber, 11g Sugar
7. Banana Nut
Featuring the same banana muffin of the Banana chocolate chip flavor, banana nut does not fall far behind. By replacing the chocolate chips with nuts, it’s not quite as good as satisfying my never-ending sweet tooth. But it is probably a healthier alternative with the extra nutritional benefits of the nuts. Great breakfast substitute!
Verdict: 7/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 110 Calories, 5g Protein, 1g Fat, 8g Fiber, 8g Sugar
8. Blueberry
Vitatop did a great job revamping this flavor. Prior to it’s newer release, the blueberry top was very lackluster with only a couple of blueberries throughout. Now these are loaded with delicious, juicy blueberry and are a fantastic substitute for a 500 calorie muffin. While not as sugary and crunchity as a blueberry muffin you might get at Starbucks, it will satisfy your morning hunger pains.
Verdict: 7/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 120 Calories, 5g Protein, 1g Fat, 8g Fiber, 8g Sugar
9. Chocolate Chip
Yes, it looks like a giant chocolate chip cookie muffin top. However, it needs way more chocolate chips for it to meet my expectations. The vanilla muffin top is a good way to change things up every once in a while, but it still does not compare to the Deep Chocolate flavor. If they added a handful more chocolate chips to this muffin top, it would be a home run.
Verdict: 7/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 120 Calories, 5g Protein, 3g Fat, 8g Fiber, 8g Sugar
10. Apple Crumb
To be fair, I’m a chocoholic. So when it comes to getting my munchy fix, I’ll always choose a chocolate flavor over Apple Crumb. So while this Vitatop flavor is certainly delicious, to me it will always fall behind the chocolate flavors. Vitalicious does a great job added the “crumble” to “apple crumble” by topping it with crumble-like pieces.
Verdict: 6.5/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 110 Calories, 5g Protein, 2g Fat, 8g Fiber, 8g Sugar
11. Harvest Corn
The only more savory Vitatop flavor to enter the line up. With a blob of butter, this flavor would be absolutely divine; however, considering I’m eating these to be on the healthy side, it just doesn’t stand up to the other flavors. This would be great with a side of tomato soup or paired with a rotisserie chicken dinner. But by itself it just isn’t overly satisfying.
Verdict: 6/10 (Best: Microwaved)
Nutrition: 120 Calories, 5g Protein, 2g Fat, 4g Fiber, 6g Sugar
